Description

Main Point:  Sometimes expecting the worst and conniving to get out of trouble doesn’t leave room for God’s grace.

Synopsis:

  • After getting his items in a grocery store, Travis realizes that he has 16 items but for expediency’s sake gets in line in the”15 items or less” aisle – and then he envisions the worst.
  • As he waits in line, Travis creates various disastrous scenarios – the checkout guy refuses to ring up the tuna, the woman behind him refuses to pay for one of the items, Travis putting a bottle of wine in his jeans and being accused of shoplifting.
  • Of course, in reality, it’s no big deal. The laid-back check out guy proceeds to check him out with no fanfare.
  • But Travis can’t leave well enough alone and he leaps over the counter, grabbing the phone and reports himself over the loud speaker.
  • A security guard rushes to the scene and subdues him.
  • Finally, with Travis out of the way, the woman who was behind him in line asks if it’s OK that she has 16 items, and the clerk says no problem.
  • Shot well with close-ups and use of graphics; catchy background music.

Application:

  • Our imaginations can make matters worst.
  • It’s human nature to dwell on what could go wrong.
  • It’s generally less complicated to abide by the rules –Travis would have ultimately saved time and mental anguish by getting in the regular line.

  • We are our own worst enemies
