Description

Main Point:  Sometimes we humans awkwardly stumble through life virtually oblivious to what’s tripping us up.

Synopsis:

  • Awkwardly persevering as he walks down the street, a young man doesn’t recognize the source of what’s causing him to continually stumble.
  • Insanity has been defined as continually doing the same thing and expecting different results. This man continues in his plight, out of control.
  • Lurching across the sidewalk, his glasses repeatedly fall off. Others stare as they get out of his way.
  • Failing to stop in his tracks before continuing on, the man embodies one who refuses to get to the root of his problem.
  • The joke is on him as he fails to recognize his problem. A laugh track and screen frame provide the ambiance of TV land.
  • Finally, he realizes that his pants have fallen down to his ankles. Once he recognizes his dilemma, he quickly remedies the problem by pulling his pants up.
  • A question appears on the screen: “Do you need to make an adjustment?”

Application:

  • If we’re continually stumbling, God has a way out.
  • If people are gawking, maybe it’s time to take note.
  • Sometimes we just don’t see what’s in plain sight.
  • If life is continually rocky, maybe we need to stop and reevaluate the situation.
  • Perceptions of being ignored or cast aside for being a Christian may be in our head. It might just be that we’re not walking right.

Suggested Uses:

         •  Teaching on self evaluations

         •  Sermon on Biblical texts
