Description

Main Point: God hears it all—and He’s not treated with much respect by some of His creation.

Synopsis:

  • When asked what they would say to God if they knew He was listening, some people give off-the-cuff responses, some have probing questions, and a few express reverential fear.
  • Genuine inquiries include questions about the point of life, the nature of evil, where Satan is, if God’s real and the world is the way it is.
  • Some don’t want to be bothered by what’d they say to God or consider the question too deep.
  • Flippant responses include one guys saying he’d ask God to have a beer, another would ask him to prove himself, and a woman would tell him (or her) to straighten up because God isn’t doing a very good job.
  • A few show reverence with admissions that they don’t have all the answers and need help. One guy says “thanks for life”. The video ends with a guy asking God to forgive him and take him back. A bright light shines as he walks away.
  • Untimely deaths are on the hearts of a couple of men—one impacted by the murder of his brother, the other by the suicide of his father.
  • Scratched film effect and freeze frame for impact. Both color and black and white footage incorporated with unique camera shots and special effects utilization for a unique look.

Application:

  • Everyone can have an audience with God – but people don’t take the access seriously.
  • Universal application—because the various inquiries of God are ones common to the human condition.
  • What believers call prayer (communication with God) is a foreign concept to those who do not know the Lord.
  • Jesus died for mankind – but few of the people he laid down His life for pursue a relationship with Him.
  • Some of the people who respond in an acerbic, cynical fashion may be the very ones who are near salvation –but are putting up a fight—so believers need to pray for the ones who don’t take communication with God seriously.

Suggested Uses:

  • Sermon-starter on the Lord’s Prayer
  • Sermon-starter on communicating with God – relational but reverential

Biblical Reference:

  • Matthew 6:7 The Lord’s Prayer
  • Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom
