Description

Main Point: Evil exists but most people don’t know how to identify it or combat it.

Synopsis:

  • An interviewer on a busy street finds that people aren’t too concerned about evil or the solution to it and for the most part believe that people are good.
  • Some say that evil is in the perception of it. Others perceive that the antidote to the devil is God yet there seems to be an ambiguity in to how to deal with evil.
  • Clearly many don’t understand that the basic nature of man of flawed and that education won’t make us better. There’s a tendency to attribute evil to socio-economic reasons.
  • One guy says that evil is dealt with a wooden stake. A young woman refers to karma – that evil can’t be avoided. Another talks about knowing right from wrong.
  • Strong sense that people are fending for themselves – trying to be vested in family life, education, and employment. One woman refers to positive vibes.
  • One guy says he fights like mad and if he has to he asks Jesus for help and he gives it. Another says that people have to make initiative to change so it would be best to start a new world in a different way.
  • Interesting use of “negatives” in some frames, as if to x-ray the respondents. Effective use of close ups of people’s eyes and facial expressions.

Application:

  • Original sin has mankind separated from God – but many don’t know.
  • Evil does exist – but God’s love is more powerful
  • God did not leave man here alone to try to navigate around evil – so the fields are ripe for harvest

Suggested Uses:

  • In the age of Oprah where many believe that sin does not exist but that people are a product of their environments, this video provides a great springboard for discussion about Biblical truth.
  • Sermon starter for the nature of evil
