Description

Main Point: Each person is unique and special to God.

Synopsis:

  • Individual uniqueness isn’t something that people don’t claim to be concerned with – yet each person is genuinely a one of a kind creation.
  • Interviewer asks people what makes them unique and if it makes any difference if they’re unique or not and receives fairly apathetic responses and a few well thought out replies.
  • One guys professes to be a Renaissance man, another wishes he could be cloned because the world would be a better place and others are hard pressed to think of anything that distinguishes them from their fellow man.
  • One person zeros in on our individual personalities and refers to the uniqueness of fingerprints. Contemplating uniqueness is too deep for another.
  • One guy gets it right—that he is unique in the God because God fashioned him and knows everything and has a specific plan and purpose for his life.
  • Vertical and horizontal film strip effect in places. Straight-forward interviews.

Application:

  • People want to stand out and be important to someone–whether they admit it not…like the young man in the video who wears a t-shirt with the word “abnormal” on it but can’t think why he’s unique.
  • Contrary to popular belief, diversity is God’s idea. He made each one of us in His image—that’s why we should value all humans. People are unique creations –but his standards remain the same.
  • If we fail to see the uniqueness in people, life is devalued and becomes disposable.
  • The value of each human life is immeasurable.
  • Possessing a soul is what separates us from animals – as humans are devalued and animals are elevated – there are hindrances to preaching the Gospel.

Suggested Uses:

  • Pro-life Sunday
  • Sermon-starter on Diversity – what it is and what it isn’t

Biblical Reference:

Psalm 139: "You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb."
