Description

Main Point: When an interviewer asks a couple of questions—when you’re down what do you do to make yourself feel better and do you have a set of core beliefs, some just don’t seem to have hope.

Synopsis:

  • Jesus Christ is the light and the hope of the world but many people just don’t know about His availability to mankind.
  • Some people are quick to respond that the Lord or reading the Bible is where they turn—others either have no recourse or they look to worldly pursuits.
  • People turn to things like coffee, liquor, guitar, the outdoors, working with flowers to feel better. An elderly man looks at girls on the street.
  • An elderly woman speaks and then sings about the Lord Jesus and His wondrous ways – as she sings, rolling clouds are shown.
  • A man says he reminds himself that his too shall pass.
  • The video ends with a haunting reminder that many do not yet know the hope that is in Christ Jesus as a middle-aged man says that he hasn’t been able to turn it around yet. The filmmakers superimpose the text “Help Me”.
  • Fast paced video utilizes quick motions, multiple screens, and graphics to convey the message that many people need to hear the Good News.

Application:

  • Many among us do not have a Biblical foundation to draw from in times of trouble.
  • People seem to think that it’s their responsibility to “pull themselves up by the boot strap” and often don’t consider that the Lord beckons “Come unto me…”
  • Hope is something we can share everyday -- through our gentle kindness and smiles and showing the love of Jesus from the inside out.
  • Many often think about core beliefs being behavior oriented – but the basic core belief as a believer and follower of Christ is do we trust Him.

Suggested Uses:

  • Sermon starter on “Are we conveying a message that God is trustworthy?”

Biblical Reference:

  • Come unto me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest
