Description

Is it good to think about death on a regular basis?

    Synopsis:

  • A man-on-the-street documentary asks passersby about the warrants of a healthy attention to death.
  • Ecclesiastes 7:2 is paraphrased; "It's better to go to a funeral than a feast. After all, it's where we'll all end up."
  • Interviewees are asked to agree / disagree with that statement from scripture. The results are mixed.
  • Some people prefer to ignore death and thoughts of the afterlife. Some think of it regularly.
  • There is a somber atmosphere as people reflect on death and what we can learn from it.

Conversation:

  • Why might it be good / bad or healthy / unhealthy to think about death on a regular basis?
  • It's often said that we learn from death. What is it, precisely, that we learn?
  • What does it mean to find phrases like 'a sad face is good for the heart' and 'it's better to go to house of mourning than a house of feasting' in scripture?
  • Is it morose to think about death? If a certain amount of reflection on death is a appropriate, when do such thoughts become inappropriate?
  • Is it okay to avoid thoughts of death?
  • What are the normal human reactions and opinions toward death?
