Description

Main Point: Fools don’t learn from their mistakes or accept responsibility for their blunders.

Synopsis:

  • A comedic documentary-style look at would-be entrepreneurs Trace Lihvers and Earl Bennington who quit their day jobs and blindly rush into the “fuzzy cans” business and refuse to listen to sound counsel along the way.
  • Clever presentation as the two men sit at a table and answer questions proffered by an off camera interviewer. Earl breaks down and nervously drinking water. A series of flashbacks interspersed throughout the video reveal their stupidity.
  • One day while walking they assume stumbling over a can is a sign from God so they precede full steam ahead and label their employees as simple-minded for not embracing their grandiose vision.
  • Every step of the way they refuse to recognize their product is doomed – no one wants to buy the product, their test market (kids) actually hate it, and their competitor “Beanie Babies” don’t embrace them.
  • Finally the two resort to buying used books to educate their employees and never comprehend that if consumers don’t want to drink out of plain cans, the alternative is to use glasses.

Application:

  • Appropriate for Christian Business Groups.
  • Sunday School lessons
  • People who are struggling with “grass is greener on other side of the fence”.

Suggested Uses:

  • Sermon Series on “foolishness”, or “committing plans to the Lord”, or the need to temper whether one is assuming a message is from God – trying to get God to fit into individual’s will.
  • Sermon starter on wisdom.

Biblical Reference:

  • Except the house is built by the LORD, the laborers labor in vain.
  • If any of you lack wisdom, ask and He will supply it.
