Description

Main Point: It’s a sobering endeavor to consider the crucifixion our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Synopsis:

  • Jesus knows the individual sorrows and trials that you go through—He alone bore the iniquities of the world and can identify with each heartache like the one experienced by the young guy in the video.
  • Dark stark reminder that Jesus hung on a tree. Barren trees remind us that Jesus was stripped of his humanity—his dignity and beaten beyond recognition. A text reminds us: “He himself bore our sins to his body on a tree”.
  • A young guy walks through an industrial ally –alone. The message reveals God’s heart: “I will search for the lost and bring back the strays”. A lone bird perched on a tree, flies away reminds us of the solitary life –the darkness of the hour.
  • Another text reads “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me. Yet not my will but yours be done.”
  • A hammer and stake are reminders of the reality—that our sins sent Jesus to the cross. The corresponding text: “Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing”.
  • Glimpses of a hand being extended to the young man as he sits, contemplating inside a building, hope is extended “This is my body given for your”. There’s iconic imagery of Jesus on the cross.
  • Crimson lettering superimposed over black and white film helps set the dreary mood, as does quick imagery of barbed wire fence. Haunting music sets an eerie mood, impending dread—yet the close reveals subtle lights on the barren trees.

Application:

  • Before the joy of Resurrection Sunday is the acknowledgment that Jesus died for our sins. He endured the cross for the joy set before Him.
  • We cannot fathom the sacrifice of being separated from the Father.
  • As we consider times of feeling guilty over unrepentant sin, can we imagine what it was to bear the sins of the world—the suffering endured is beyond our ability to fully comprehend.

Suggested Uses:

  • Good Friday Service
  • Communion Service
