Description

Main Point:  Hunger and poverty are painfully still evidence throughout the globe.

Synopsis:

  • Many people go to bed hungry every night—and malnourishment has been the cost of untold millions of deaths.
  • From a mathematical standpoint, it looks like hunger could be eradicated –yet it’s a spiritual problem as well and until the Lord’s return there is going to be pain and suffering.
  • Christian organizations like World Vision have led the way in outreach to the least among us and have estimated that children in third world countries can survive on as little as $1 a day.
  • Many videos visually focus on those in need whereas this video focuses on Western convenience –things we take for granted like microwaves.
  • Video begins with a definition of hunger—and follows with a series of compiled statistics.
  • There is no narration—but the music provides a sound background for the text transcript (shown below) that appears on the screen—superimposed over the shots.

Application:

  • Jesus told us that the poor would always be among us—so the poor and needy are very close to the heart of God.
  • As believers it is imperative that we lead the way in helping disadvantaged groups—for instance when governments give aid, there is usually strings attached promoting abortion.  Only Jesus’ message brings true freedom and hope.
  • Jesus took care of practical needs before He preached—so the Church needs to help in tangible ways so we have a platform to share the Good News.
  • People are valuable – our hearts need to break over the things that break God’s heart.

Suggested Uses:

  • Introduction to Missions Conference
  • Sermon-starter about Foreign Outreach

Biblical Reference:

  • Luke 6:21 Blessed are you who hunger now for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now for you will laugh.
  • Proverbs 21:13 If a man shuts his ears to the cries of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered.
