Application:

• The many hats we wear in life certainly hold important positions in our lives—but only through Christ is our true, never changing identity.
• The Lord is jealous for our hearts—the first commandment in both the Old Testament Law as well as the New Covenant address the need for God to first in our lives.
• When we have a first love relationship with the Lord, (our vertical relationship), the horizontal or earthly relationships become more meaningful.

• If we love anything one or anything more than God—even good things in our lives, it becomes idolatry.
