Description

Theme:

The idea and institution of marriage is a unique experience among human beings.

Synopsis:

  • In this piece we seek answers to a few basic questions about the institution of marriage.
  • The interviewees are a couple married 28 years, a couple married 3 years, a single female, and a single male.
  • The first question is simply 'what is marriage?'
  • The responses range from describing a simple union of two souls and two bodies, to a special display of God's infinite character.
  • Later we seek an answer to the question of why God created marriage as he did (created a man, decided he was incomplete, then added to his creation).
  • The answers are complex and varied, and as such reveal the complex and varied nature of the marriage relationship.

Conversation:

  • Why did God create marriage?
  • Can man be truly content outside of community?
  • Why did God create man as a relational being?
  • Was man the only part of God's creation that was 'revised?'
  • What does marriage reveal about God's character, and also the nature of man?
