Perspective on Religious Leaders

Get Flash Player

Description

Main Point: Jesus Christ, Buddha, and Mohammad are considered the leaders of three great religions but only Jesus has an empty tomb.

Synopsis:

  • Interviewer received interesting answers when he asked random people on the street a series of questions about Mohammad, Buddha, and Jesus –who they are, how they’ve impacted one’s life, how they died and where they’re buried--.
  • One man says that Mohammad has hurt the U.S. financially. Another says that since Islam is the major religion, Mohammed has impacted him. No one identifies Al-Masjid al-Nabawi (the mosque in Medina, Saudia Arabia) as the place where Mohammed is buried.
  • No one interviewed seem to know that Buddha is buried in a grave in Kusinara at the foot of the Himalaya Mountains. Although a few say they’ve been influenced by him, there’s not understanding what it really means.
  • A young man whose father is Buddhist testifies that he is a follower of Jesus.
  • Another man says that Jesus is alive –that he is not buried because He rose again.
  • A young man tells about being run over when he was a small child and that although his t-shirt had tire marks, he was not injured. He testifies that he saw Jesus that day and that Jesus saved his life.
  • Some people—even a guy who says he’s Christian say that Jesus is buried in Israel or Bethlehem.
  • Presented in straightforward manner—Mohammad, Buddha, Jesus. Many of the same people speak about all three leaders.

Application:

  • It’s important to know what the major world religions believe so that when we witness we have insight into their perspective.
  • When non-believers hear where Mohammad, Buddha, or any other religious leader is buried –then are told that the Christian faith is based on the fact that the tomb of Jesus Christ is empty—that can have a powerful impact on them.
  • It’s difficult to dispute someone’s testimony of Jesus Christ – like the young man who was saved from death or injury.
  • There is no comparison to God incarnate and mere human religious leaders.

Suggested Uses:

  • Sunday school lessons on world religions
  • Evangelism class on reaching out to people of different religions.
