Video Title: Questionable Culture

Genre: Man on the Street Documentary Style

Run Time: 5:50

This can be used as a complimentary video to How Do You Connect with God?

Main Point: When asked, many people say flat out that they don’t connect with God and when asked about their life’s purpose, some are agitated and don’t want to be bothered.

Synopsis:

  • And interviewer discovers that the streets are replete with individuals too busy to be bothered with fundamental questions like why they’re here.

  • Most of those featured don’t connect with God or don’t believe in God. Others responses include following the Golden Rule, smoking marijuana, and hiking outside in the earth.

  • Agitated with the questioning, one woman chides the interviewer for posing trite questions. When asked what he wants put on his tombstone, one desolate soul replies “Is that all there was?”

  • Most troubling are responses regarding what one would do if they knew it was the last day on earth. One man says he’d shoot himself. A young man clad in a eerie t-shirt camera within camera shot of an American flag waving proclaims his love for Satan and says he’d probably kill a lot of people if he knew he was going to die.

  • An elderly man tells him that it’s a good question to ask and then walks away. Effective, subtle use of music: “There’s a yoke that is easy, a burden that’s light. Don’t wait for tomorrow, there might not be time”. Those words are particularly haunting as background music to the final frames of the video which revisit the young Satanist before closing on a marker in the cemetery.

  • Esthetically pleasing with use of vibrant colors. There’s the use of a split screen in places when a question is posed (appearing on the right side) next to the person being questioned.

Application:

  • Often non-believers are agitated when confronted about life’s most important questions – indicating these very concerns are on their minds.

  • The Lord wants to break through the denial and avoidance and minister to every heart.

  • There’s a need to minister to people in a post-modern world. If they’re not serving God, they’re serving something else.

Suggested Uses

  • Sermon starter on how to engage people in conversations about God.

  • Evangelism study

Biblical Reference:

Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

1 Peter 5:8 Be clear-minded and alert. Your opponent, the devil, is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.
