Description

Theme: A stylized black and white exploration of the story of Easter. One man came down, walked among us, and changed everything. Music by Ryan Kingsmith.

Synopsis:

  • A stylized black and white film reveals a man in a white suit coming down off a hillside.
  • The man walks over a bridge, through a traffic tunnel, and into an urban setting.
  • On his journey, most of the people he passes are dressed in black, and downcast.
  • The man approaches a steep, dark staircase. After a pause, he starts up.
  • Finally he enters a crowd of people dressed in black, and gently moves to the front of the crowd.
  • He changes his clothes to black, and the clothing of the crowd instantly transforms to white.
  • The man exits the crowd, and the crowd begins moving out as well, now dressed in white.

Conversation:

  • 'Reborn' presents a symbolic Christ figure who walks steadily among people, yet changes them. Do we / you view the Christ as a merely symbolic figure, or as the true God-man, the savior of humanity?
  • In this piece, the black clothing represents sin, downtrodden lives, and hopelessness. What does it mean to 'wear white?' How do we, in a sense 'wear the clothing of Christ' in the world?
  • The story / ideas of Jesus are old, and familiar to most. What do they mean today for people, lives, mankind?
  • 'Reborn' is a reflection on the Easter story - the death of Christ as a sacrifice for man. Why did / does man need a sacrifice?
