The Angel's Candle - LOVE

Get Flash Player

Description

Main Point: Love—the fourth candle of the Advent Wreath symbolizes the love that our Savior Jesus Christ expressed as He gave up his throne in heaven and came to earth in human form.

Synopsis:

  • A young girl holding her infant brother enjoys the joy and love that this new family addition brings – at Christmas babies remind us of the Christ Child that the angel heralded as Good News.
  • The birth of Jesus impacts everything in the world today—he came to earth in the form on an infant vulnerable in every way ---his gift of love to us.
  • Just as the Wise Men brought gifts to him, we give gifts today. The girl opens a box marked “Noel” and takes out an angel and shows it to her baby brother.
  • Set in the family home, there is a sense of deep love between the siblings. Three scriptures cited –along with a music from a verse from O Come, O Come Emmanuel (see below).

Application:

  • God is love. The most quoted verse (John 3:16) reminds us that God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son.
  • God incarnate in the form of the Christ child demonstrates love that is unfathomable from our human perspective.
  • Separated by our own sin, God took drastic measures to reconcile us to him.
  • As we consider the love of God, we must ponder the Christ Child.

Suggested Uses:

Fourth Sunday of Advent

Music Lyrics:

O come, thou Key of David, come,
and open wide our heavenly home;
make safe the way that leads on high,
