Description

Theme: Jesus Christ is not only the reason for the season – He is the gift that every person has the opportunity to open.

Synopsis:

  • The pure free gift of salvation is presented metaphorically as an unopened gift that God invites people from all walks of life to receive.
  • Christmas time—opens on barren trees and cuts to people are doing last minute shopping. A woman walks with Christmas bags. Inside, there are lights, and Christmas cards hanging.
  • Segues to Christmas tree in home with Christmas presents waiting to be opened—three children barrel downstairs and begin unwrapping presents.
  • One present, wrapped in white remains unopened –the oldest child carefully carries it upstairs and places it unopened under a bed.
  • As they unwrap presents, the voice over representing God begins:
  • Narration: “That’s the one. There are many gifts but that’s the one. This one is special. This one is perfect. This one is for you. You who never met your parents, this is for you. You embraced by friends and loved ones, this is for you. You struggling to make ends meet, this is for you. And you with money to burn, this is yours. You, the lost one, take this. For you screaming out for the world to hear, this is yours. And you who feel that you’ve got it all figured out, open this. This one is special. This one is for you. I can’t wait for you to see what’s inside.”
  • Film quality—quiet, reflective piece. Piano instrumental throughout.

Conversation:

  • This video covers all the basis – people with nothing and people who have it all by this world’s standards need Jesus—there’s just no getting around it.
  • The goodness of the Lord draws people.
  • Symbolically, as the girl places the box under the bed, it represents both the intimacy that God calls us to and the need to carefully contemplate in a quiet place the decision to come to Christ.
  • The free gift of salvation is a private matter that each soul must consider.

Scripture Reference:

Titus 3:4-7 When the kindness of God our Saviour, and his love towards man, appeared, not by works done in righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, which he poured out upon us richly, through Jesus Christ our Saviour; that, being justified by his grace, we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life"
