You Came to Us
Description
Theme:
Christ came completely dependent on us, so that we would learn to live completely dependent on Him.
Synopsis:
A Christmas-themed piece with visuals of Christmas lights, nativity scenes, and decorations
TImelapsed city footage is interspersed, showing the bustle and hurry of the urban landscape.
A voiceover narrates the following text:
You came to us.
And look how far we’ve come.
Your birth was humble. Destitute, even.
We still don’t fully understand it.
We build important lives and construct bright things and stretch ourselves beyond what we can bear—to achieve, thrive, and succeed…So the world will take note of us.
But you,
You came as a child,
Possessing nothing but the Father’s favor… and the world hardly took notice.
You were entirely dependent on us, so that one day we would live entirely dependent on you.
Your message was simple, but difficult.
Love God. Love others. Be righteous. Share the wealth.
We prop Christmas up for love and peace, and tear it down in January and get back to work.
We can’t live that way all year, after all.
Or can we?
Can we live as children? Trusting. Obeying. Witnessing constant wonder. Learning to share. Never withholding love.
We can try.
We will try.
We celebrate your birth, boy king.
Christ-child.
You came, entirely dependent on us, so that we would live entirely dependent on you.
Conversation:
What was the purpose of Christ's humble beginnings?
Was Christ really 'helpless' as a baby or did He enjoy some special sort of help or protection from God the Father?
What does the idea that Christ came as a baby teach us about humility and meekness?
What is the cultural meaning of Christmas?
What is the Christ-centered meaning of Christmas?
